Are 14" rims to small to look good on a olds G body?

IMHO, when talking about SSII rims .... I think the trim rings makes the 14" and 15" rims almost indestiguishible. SSIIs in 14" look small because of the small factory tire sizes (typically a 195/70-14). The all chrome SSIIIs (and most aftermarket) - the rim size seems more obvious, because you actually see the lip of the rim. I love my argent N78s, but they definately needed to be larger (maybe 16" x 8").

17" wheels are the new 15's. :) I think your safe with either a 15" wheel for tire selection or jumping to a 17" rim.
Definitely. I just wish they made these in a 17":

Yeah, my dad has those on his '02 GMC Sonomoa and tire prices are RIDICULOUS!
You start getting into higher prices when you start using lower profile tires for sure, nature of the beast :?

Thanks for the replys. If I buy alum factory rims I would go with the p225/70R14. Looks like I would be .3 shorter than the P255/60R15. I realy like the look of the alum stock wheel so it loos like I will have to give up tire width if I use the 14'' rims. When I take the car to the track I will have to use a steet slick. I do think the wider tire's in the back ,give's the car more of an edge to the way it looks? I think I would drop the car an extra half to one inch to make up for the smaller tire size. Thanks again for all the reply's. Bernhard

No, these tires for his truck are ridiculous. I bought a pair of 245/45ZR17 tires and 255/45ZR17 tires for $200 less than the tires his truck calls for.
I tried searching around but these things go for $600+.

i like my 14's in the front and my 15x8's in the back. its gives it that "drag car" look i like. its all opinion on what you like/can afford. id love to get some cragar soft 8's that are 17x10 but i cant afford the cost of body/frame work or the rims them selves. its all about what YOU want.

What size does he get? Brand makes a difference too... all my dad's gotten on his vehicles the past several tire changes are Michelin. They're expensive as poo but they ride really really nice.

Soft 8s are about the cheapest aftermarket 17" you can get, and they only go up to 17x9, I'll be getting a set of 4 for the '78.

Good point about the cost of most 16" tires. Although tirerack lists their cheapes 245/50/16 at $77 and their cheapest 255/50/16 at $119. fwiw In my pics the first pic of the flat black Cutlass has 14s up front and 15s in the rear. BTW contrary to what someone posted I the factory 14" tire size was 195/75/14. (25.5 tall) Partly why the 205/70/14 25.4 tall and the 245/60/14 25.6 tall works well is that it gives a lil more meat and keeps your speedo etc near perfect. Although the performance g-bodys got a 215/65/15 ie 26.0 tall and the 225/70/14 26.5 closer matches that and fills out he wheelwells better.

I love the Olds Rally wheel, I had my stock 14's powdercoated black and I've been rollin em ever since, they look great with a meaty tire with white letters. I plan on running a 15x8 in the back and 14x6 up front using some repro olds rallys from Wheel Vintiques

I'd stick with the 14s because they're so much cheaper. Unless you're going to race, then 15s would be the wiser choice. I just picked up 4 14 inch rallies (2 black rusty and 2 silver half decent with good tires) for $20 a piece WITH rings and caps in pretty good shape. Just need to put in a few hours of sanding and painting, then pick up some tires for them. If you look in the right place though, you can find 15s for the same price.
