are used parts getting harder to find ?

There is one yard 20 miles north of me that still has old stuff. He is a farmer that runs a yard on the side at his place. I got a steering colmn for my 80 chevy pickup from him not too long ago. He is also a bring your tools and pull your own parts guy. A good old school salvage yard.

Unfortunately, cars with carbs are getting few and far between. I have been going every Saturday for a couple years trying to get what I can before they are crushed. I restored an 87 442 about 4 years ago and went to a friends junkyard in the country. He had probably 50 or so Gbodys. Mostly cutlasses..after I got the car done i didn't go out there for a couple of years. When I went back, they were all gone..I could not believe it. Metal went up and he crushed them..he said he makes all of his money on late models..So now I go every weekend...I started going to the yards when I was a teenager getting camaro, nova and chevelle parts..they dried up but that was alright because I just switched to Gbodys..but when these are gone, there is nothing after them and that sucks..timo22

I'm 30, and back when I was 16-20, Gbodies were the main car I'de see in any junkyard. They were EVERYWHERE. Now 10 years later, and the last time I went to Pull-a-Part, there were about 4 Gbodies.
This same Pull-a-Part, opened up about 7 years ago, and Gbody's, 80's and early 90's cars, were all they had for several years. Now it's all mid 90's to mid 2000's.

Better grab up all the bubble chevy parts before they dry up, they're next

There were a finite number of G bodys built, it follows that over time used parts will become less common, especially sheet metal. Nothing has left Detroit with a carburettor for 20 years and the engines and transmissions are no longer produced.
Plus the price of scrap metal has gone through the roof over the last few years so the junkyards are cashing in.

Sadly the consequence for us is we have to dig deeper into our pockets to keep our pride and joy in good shape.

Roger.

These cars are next in line after A body and parts will eventually be made for theses cars just like they were for the A bodies. There are more and more people interested in these cars being basically the last rwd GM produced. The prices will go up as the demand goes up and the supply shrinks.

Which is a good enough reason to hang onto your car even if it is a heap, just look at what chevelles/novas/camaros that are crap are going for now that 10-15 years ago nobody cared about. even the malibus and base models are $3000 + for a driver

we are helping and popping where we can and everything said here is the truth. Even with my short time of a few years rebuilding I have seen the cars double in price. It's the 25 year from last produced to current that the car spikes in value. We will work at most of the sheetmetal. We feel this is our last hoorah at RWD vehicles mass produced. These vehicles may be worth their weight in gold, consider them dinosaurs. We cannot make everything though....

never thought i would say this but i think i am going to start hoarding parts.I feel sorry for buick and olds guys in my area they dont exist.that is one reason i have not bought a cutlass, love the car but not alot of parts around me and the one"s that are ,are very expensive.
