Qdub,

I would start over with the install, from step one. Sounds like the swivels may be out of adjustment, could have happened from the previous install with the kinked cable. Hopefully the shifter wasn't damaged. I would start there and work my way back. I do believe you have to have the cable go through the front hole of the shifter for it to work properly.

Another thing to check is the T-Handle - it may not be operating as it should. It may be dropping down causing the binding. Any problems with it getting out of Park, getting into Reverse? As others stated, I would try to shift the trans w/o the cable hooked up, then try to run the shifter through each position w/o the cable hooked up. Then try to ratchet it w/o the cable hooked up.

Alright, I'll try the unhooking the cable method tomorrow. If that doesn't work, my buddy said he'll help me with it on Saturday.

Cool, keep us posted.

If you need the install instructions I can post them.

Thanks jae, but I've got the install instructions that came w/the shifter, and saved on my computer. I tried the unhooking the cable method over the weekend, and that proved unsuccessful. I got so angry w/it that I took the shifter out of the car after it got stuck in 2nd again. However, the shifter shifts just fine OUT OF the car. My buddy suggested that maybe something is catching on the car's carpet causing it to get stuck in 2nd when in ratchet mode. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should try next?

On the plus side, I got my Rallye cluster installed this weekend and my timing set just about perfect.

Hey Q, did you have any problems getting to the bolts under the car to tighten the shifter?

Nope, the bolts were right over the tailshaft of my trans so I had plenty of room to get to 'em.

Ok.

In terms of catching on the carpet do you have the carpet under the shifter? If so you may have to cut it away more, or if you just slit it and the carpet is covering the sides of the shifter it may be hanging up. With it shifting ok outside the car it may be with the way it's bolted to the floor, like a bent bracket / mount. Maybe adding a shim / washer would help.

When it was in the car did you try just shifting it from Drive to second, then back to Drive? What about hitting each gear (D-2-1) w/o ratcheting it back up, but just going from 1st, into 2nd, then Drive?

At least you got the rallye gauges in and she's timed.

I think I've got it. It was the carpet under the shifter that was causing my problem. I cut it out and reinstalled the shifter today, and everything works just fine now. Thanks for all your help.
