i got a situation that i could use some advice on. i put a new front-end on a Bonneville and moved the battery to the back of the car. i think i have the alternator wired right; at least from some diagrams that i found on the CS style. i have the brown wire for the indicator and the red running to pos post. from the pos post i have a wire running back to the battery; if this is right or wrong would you let me know? the other thing that i was wanting to know is what size inline fuse to run to the battery? i was thinking i could splice it in near the post at the back to make things easy. i read in a manual that a 14 gauge is to be used, but since i rewired it with a 10 gauge wire i'm thinking i should use a 12 gauge fuse link, any thoughts? all things were working with this conversion before a tire blew and ripped the wiring out. i had to jump the r's up a bit to get the alternator working but i can live with that; unless some has a cure? just looking for the best way of doing this as i'm in a wheelchair and do not want to get broke down if all possible; especially when i can ask and cure potential problems Now. thanks to ZZ4CutlaSS and willamattop for the help with my lights, their all good now.

Re: Best Alternator/Battery Wiring Method???

Take my advice with a grain of salt i think ive only wired a couple alternators in my day so im not an expert. Everything sounds right you did good to go with the 10 guage feed wire insted of the 14. The brown wire yes should be the indicator i think and you should have another wire for a switched 12volt source although ive seen alternators without them if thats what you have. As for a fuse are you using a blade fuse? If so that gauge is probly fine with a 60amp fuse. Although i think a fuseilble link would be better.

But truth be told i really dont remember the last one i wired was my Bu about 5 years ago so id wait for another opinion before taking my advice lol

Maybe this will help

Re: Best Alternator/Battery Wiring Method???

thanks jacbodavis1979, i was thinking of running the fuse-able link in the back where the battery is; make thing s simple. i read around the forums and looked up some diagrams and they all seem to say the same thing about the CS as far as the wiring from the alternator. i'm just curious about what size fuse-able link to use. i guess i can just run a size smaller than my 10 gauge say a 12, since the original wire was 12 and the called for link is 14. i couldn't find anything addressing a link size in any of the other posts, so i'm running on an educated guess and asking for advice, thanks again

No prob man i think a 12 or 14 at about 60amp is fine but dont hold me to it lol
