And, to those who find it economical/beneficial to rely on a parts person to help them diagnose their problem with the limited info given, dont argue with them....try to remember, he's attempting to help someone who is obviously too ignorant to fix it himself and/or too cheap to hire a real mechanic.

The 1 that always gets me is its a 'Vette 350 with a 3/4 cam in it...of course my response dang i got to put all the cam in mine im afraid mine would make noise if i cut the cam off....and when you pull into a gas station and your in a Malibu and some "know it all" says nice mustang...

I hate the "parts jockeys" at the advance near my house. Everyone in there thinks they know everything about cars....if they were so smart they would work in a shop as a mechanic and not sell parts.Anyways I needed a filter for the cutlass, the "genius" behind the counter looked it up and gave me the number, it looked familiar but thought it was wrong, it ended up being for a chevy 350. I went back to the counter and told him it was wrong. He said trust me dude, I'm a big oldsmobile guy this is the right filter. So i finally said I needed one for a 86 cutlass with a 307. Problem solved. If he only knew I build engines for a living.

It's so bad here in Phoenix I have given up trying to get parts from Auto Zone or O'Reilly's. I have started ordering every thing from Rock Auto .com. I buy my Oil by the case at Sam's club and order filters by the case off E-Bay. The only thing I buy at Auto Zone is Brake clean and coolant. :|

Pronoun abuse when referring to a car:
"She's such a great car. I always miss her when she's out of my sight."
I've seen multi-page threads that read like that post after post. Not sure why it bothers me so much but it does. Boats are "shes", cars are "its".

LOL abuse. I can handle once every few posts. But when it's at the beginning, middle and end of every sentence I just want to smash my laptop. Maybe I'm just to old to appreciate it.

This is bad in Pittsburgh too. I really get annoyed with it. I walked into the local autozone and told the guy (some 16 year old nose picker) I needed hog rings for reupholstering seats (I should have known they wouldn't have them). Anyways, he says "oh yeah, we have those." So after he looks around in the back for about 5 minutes, he comes out with a little package of push nuts. When I told him they weren't what I needed, he INSISTED they were! So I just said, "ok, you're right." And walked out the door.

Hey easy now, we aren't all like that. I did work at a GM dealer and I got burnt out. Didn't want to touch my own car. I couldn't have that so working a parts counter is the best option for me, a discount on parts and I still manage to have a desire to work on my vehicles. That said, I know what ya mean, sometimes you work with people that just embarrass you when they open their mouths.

Mark me down for that two, lol. <

Yeah....parts people run the gammit from full on retards to automotive genius'....sad part is...the good parts guys are less likely to be on the front counter working with the public. But, if you can find a good one, get to know him by name, call him on the phone before you come in and ask him to pull your parts for you or look them up and put them on hold. Then when you walk in, just tell the lame brain who waits on you that youve got some parts on hold and they will hopefully know how to find them......

Dont blame the parts people .... blame the corporations that hire them. Call the companies and tell them they need to train their people better or find better qualified sales people. Mention the word NAPA and they will listen!....
