your idle problem may get better once you put good gas in it. and yes, youll need more than just 1 gallon. go ahead and fill it up with premium, once you run it out you can put the cheap stuff in again. ive done that with a few cars that sat for several years. looks like a nice ride, the chrome ralleys will look fine on it.
its completely full of premium. lol

rebuilding the carb since it was flooding. this is my first time and hey, its easier than i thought with a little guidance. its soaking in carb cleaner, there was a loooottt of gunk in this thing from sitting so long! what exactly is that stuff?

It could be someone ran some cleaner in the gas for fuel injection instead of for a carb. That fuel injection stuff will eat plastic

It looks like carbon from an old original cast iron intake that had the heat riser passage. It was to heat the base for better emulsification when the engine was cold. If you replaced the intake gaskets and didn't use the restrictors provided, you would get excess exhaust gasses up there and while your choke was operating, the rich mixture would just cake up.

all is taken care of and it runs smoothly. now the issue is the heater/ac. nothing happens when i hit the switches. just replaced the heater core so that it would stop steaming, that worked. all of the plugs were hooked back up. what gives now?

check fuses? tap on the blower motor with a wrench, if it starts working youll need to replace it soon.

Looks amazing compared to what it looked like in that hole. Good buy. Your heat problem could just be a corroded switch or by the look of the interior pic. Mice chewing on wires. Also look out for mouse nests in the ductwork, can lead to a facefull of nasty and smellin up your car. Not a bad idea to try and get it all out

I'd change the small resistor mounted on the outside of heater box first, and if it didn't solve the problem, go from there. It was the problem on mine, after changing the blower motor, and the interior controls.
