I’ve already gotten the spindles and parts for a 2000 Camaro 4 wheel disc conversion. I remember reading on hear a while back to get an 81 Firebird 4 wheel disc brake master cylinder. What about the power booster? Summit has the combo for $250.00 ,off brand to me. Any suggestions before I buy something wrong.

The 1998-2000 F-Bodies used a 1.0” bore master cylinder. Not sure what year your gbody is, but this master cylinder is a newer option and should work well with the F-body brake setup

Just need to make sure it will work with your booster. Not sure about the 1978-1981 boosters, but should work fine with the 1982-1988 boosters per the link above.

Being 40 years old, I want to change the whole system. It was said on here to use the 81 Firebird disc/disc master. I want to know if i sould get the Firebird booster or does the bird master fit a gbody booster?

Bird master fits but the cast iron case can be ugly to some.

If you have a 78-81 the booster has a small hole and 82+ has a large hole. A bird or disk 81 toronado master works on all g boosters but something like a 86 Caprice master only works on 82+.

A right hand drive s10 from like 01 works well to.

Will the bird booster work on my 79 Elco?

I think its finally sunk in, get the bird M/C and a new 79 Elco booster. I compared part #s, the bird uses a different # for the booster. Some are offered with a dual diaphragm others a single. Which one should i get? As I’ve stated before, I am NOT a mechanic, and this upgrade is all new to me.

This has been discussed here alot. I started a thread that re-hashed alot of older discussions. If you review the thread, you'll see what I used and I explained how well it worked. I originally was shafted by the booster that won't accept the larger bore master cylinder. We ended up using an '80 Riviera master cylinder that works great with C5/C6 fronts and Camaro rear discs. I would recommend it to anyone and it was also well priced. We ran it for a bit with stock Disc/drum proportioning valve and then swapped to a disc/disc proportioning valve ($80-90), and all I can say about that is I should've saved my money - there was not a big difference, and if there was any difference at all, then it was negligible.

Regarding the stock booster, the double diaphragm unit is what we have and it did not need to be upgraded.

Good luck - Jim

I used the 81 bird master on my 81 GP. It is an aluminum unit that looks a lot like the G master with the lines in the correct place. It did fit my original dual diaphragm booster and works fine but the power assist seems a bit low to me with such a large master. I would recommend using an 80's b body booster if more power assist is wanted.

'98-'02 Camaro brakes up front on my '83 El Camino. Brakes in the back are stock except I'm using S10 wheel cylinders. Also using the stock proportioning valve. If you are going disc on the rear you will need to change the stock proportioning valve out for a disc/disc one.

Master is a Centric 13062036 for a Riviera/Toronado. Booster is a Cardone 54-71040 for a Caprice.
It all works together perfectly. Brakes couldn't feel any better.
