I disagree with it being ridiculous and a waste of money, yeah maybe you'll be fine, but do you want to go through the trouble twice in case your bearings decide to crap out? Or would you just like to assure yourself with fresh bearings? They aren't that expensive in most cases anyway. And who's challenging your expertise anyway? I myself have an automotive degree but it doesn't mean I am always right either

bearings are easy to inspect and if your not sure then get someone who has experience with bearings. We reuse bearings and the races all the time and on the race car it gets so hot we have to tape the dust cover on or the heat will let it fly off. Those rotors glow red each race. The biggest cause of bearing failures is incorrect installation and adjustment. And if your wondering about my experience with bearings I was the certified bearing guy on the CL 600 and 601 jets. I was flown to Mojave Desert twice to inspect the bearings on the test aircraft.

I'm not disputing your expertise with bearings at all. In most cases it probably is improper adjustment or lack of grease that causes a failure. My only point is that they are not insanely expensive and if they are 25+ years old, might not be a bad idea. :friday:

between me and you I'll use an old OEM bearing before I'd use the chinese junk that they sell now. We have a good supply of bearings that were used back on the early 80's and they are in perfect shape....cheers.. 🙂
