Here is what I did after trying all else.

Go to the hardware store and get a grade 8 bolt that is long enough and has an adequate diameter (doesn't neccessarily need to be as big around as the original), also get a large washer for the bolt. Get a tap and a drillbit that matches it for the bolt you decided to use. The tap should have a number like 7 or 8 or something like that, the bit will also have the same number, just have the hardware guy or gal help you. If you don't have a good center punch I would suggest getting one.

Drill a hole right next to where the bolt extractor broke off, I would suggest using the center punch to keep the drill bit from walking back to the extractor, if it does this it will break the drill bit.

On the starter notch out the hole so you can fit the bolt more toward the side and use a washer on the bolt. I used a right angle grinder with a cutting wheel, anything that will cut it will work. Make sure your new hole is on the side where your notch is at on the starter.

Disclaimer: This is not the ideal thing to do. The Ideal would be to get ALL of the extractor out and drill and tap that hole, but what I did works well just makes it a pain in butt to change starters as you will have notch any new one you purchase.

Think ill just spend the extra 100 bucks and swap new starter for high torqe mini starter that doesn't use that hole....that will work right??...the guy at parts store said that's the only way without getting bolt out and fixing hole??

If you are going to do that, you might as well at least try to get the bolt out. If you succeed, that's great. If you fail, you can fall back on your mini stater plan.

I bet if you can drill a hold completely through to the bottom of the bolt it will loosen it up.

Nah...screw that bolt drill won't even drill any more unless its down into block....keeps breaken bits....shucks oreily exchanged starter for one that uses two front bolt holes got it home and it don't fit...flexplate is hitting rod in starter nose and won't allow holes to line up....so I called em that had me come back and get the same starter wit a different part number got that one home and got same problem....they gave me a starter for a 153 flex plate twice and I toldem I had a 168.....so I'm done playen wit dis starter issue tomarrow ill get the mini starter and be done wit it.......thanks for all the input everybody...

Relax man its a simple fix I had it happen several times and lots of people bring me work that involves extracting broken bolts. If it is below the surface of the block weld a bead to the bolt till it extends past the surface of the block then weld a washer to the bead then a nut 2 the washer. It may require heat with the torch after this so heat the block and let cool by itself, then turn out the bolt. U CAN DO IT.

Although That's a clever suggestion.... I already got mini starter. The engine is all put together just need hoses a new vac line for th350,bolts for trans, some teflon tape.case of oil,and new trans cable and ill have it all to attemp putting it in my cutlass.

Why noy use an "Easy Out"
