CadiRat adventures

So in search of choke pull offs has to be an art now. Did figure out that I have a 750cfm carb. And I know many of the group has gone to injection of one style or another and or we know G bodies had the beginning of the computer controlled carbs. That being said, the secondary choke pull off for CadiRat is like hen’s teeth. Even after getting the carb number! I found a place on line with the part called MIKESCARB.com or here's the link www.carburetor-parts.com. They had injection and carb parts, rebuild kits, rebuilt carbs. Web site seems pretty well organized. Might want to add it to that ever growing list of options to look for parts. Figured it’s worth a mention. Enjoy the ride and let the adventures continue.

Thanks for the tip! I'll share my "go to" carb parts supplier: Allstate Carburetor.

The leaky thing sound similar to the issue I have with my Mom's 78 Sedan de Ville. Thinking the culprit is under the padded roof somewhere. Caddy had a bad habit of not painting the roof surfaces if they were going to pad the roof. Led to surface rust and other related problems. The 78 now resides peacefully in Bay Three under its cover. RIP.

I think this was more the vinyl roof. Every place it was had rust on the edges. I’ll be doing rust repair on the floor and trunk from it. Not anything fancy, more like Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap! 😏
 
So with a couple days over two weekends I managed to get the front end put together. Had to wait due to the computer outage for UPS to get a part to me. Had to wait for a strut rod for the driver side

Which is. The lower control arm support and front end alignment parts. The original was worn out from the band bushings and rubbing down on the threads an 1/8”.

Plus replaced all the swaybar bushings. Also after some head scratching and computer researching why it kind of lacked power. Actually found 3 things. I had already knew the primary and secondary vacuum pull offs as well as the electric choke was bad as well as well as the in carb long fuel filter ( a non-stocking item?!🙄)And decided the rubber fuel line was pretty crunchy. Had in stock 3/8” fuel line so off it came. Seems when we were loading it on the trailer when I got it, I must’ve crushed the fuel line.

How that ran the car I have no idea! My buddy must have changed the line at some point to copper, but was an easy fix. Then kept looking at the vacuum line to the distributor. How it was run made no sense.
Turned out there was 2 T’s missing. One between the primary choke pull off to go over to the distributor and one just before the distributor going to a thermal vacuum control switch to run the heat riser on the exhaust manifold. Finding the correct schematic was a little difficult for the vacuum system.
Also had fun finding the PCV and breather grommets. Couple more weekends and hopefully I’ll start feeling it’s safe for the streets
 
So finally got a new mechanical fuel pump installed. The possible factory one’s one way valve seemed to have failed and was bleeding back. Picture shows all the fuel in the pump and had the factory blue engine paint on the bolts! I found the battery was dead again. Went digging in. Was not the alternator system, but at the fuses found a 12v draw through the “body” fuse. Now these are the glass fuse style, body covers all the “Orange” wiring,IE: door ,trunk, glove box, hood, possibly seat control power.
My Motor’s Manual,being for up to 1974 how to make a test light, to find the short. I be just using my regular test light. Hopefully find it’s a light and not a wire!

Talking with my brother, came up with a cheap, cheap fix. Similar to light idea and just add in a fuse going through a lighted switch for use if and when needed. 😏Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap!

That should be a 800 cfm Qjet. The secondary pulloff can be removed, glad you found one. Cliff's pull offs are the best, he actually adds restriction so they don't release too quickly and cause a bog. Yeah probably the factory fuel pump. Glad the old girl is still floating along.
