Cam lobe mystery......

Needs to find the cause first and evaluate from there. By looking at the oil filter it will determine if anything is has gone through the pump which is the way debris will get in the galleries. I run w/o oil by pass to force everything through the filter
I thought about doing that but can't that cause a filter blow out?

Well I just checked the rocker arms and I can't find any scratches or marks where they would be hitting the retainters. Gonna get new ones anyway since a few seem froze up..
If nothing obvious is hitting thoroughly inspect the roller rockers concentrate on your 4 "frozen ones" especially the fulcrum area for cracks, missing needle bearings etc.
though as I already stated a complete teardown is inevitable but you must find the issue first.

As far as the oil filter bypass I have been running a remote dual filter set up since I had my 496 BBC mainly because it makes changing filters a breeze and I am using a Moroso billet bolt on adapter on the block and I use K & N filters, the adapters take a Ford filter and the burst rating is 550 psi and I have never had an issue.

Yea the rocker arms will be replaced by a nice set of Scorpos or Sharps.

I use a basic remote oil filter setup with a WIX filter. No idea on burst rating. Where do I go about buying a bypass eliminator???

I use this one from Moroso part # 23782 it bolts directly where the original mounted and seals with O-rings.
If your remote adaptor screws on to where the filter used to be then there is still a bypass on the factory mount.
You can also replace your original with a non bypass adapter like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g4982/overview/make/chevrolet

My vote would be for Harland Sharp - They came to my rescue twice, Fixed a problem at the Halloween Classic (no charge) and dropped shipped some new rockers so I could get them for a race. Best customer service - they have my business forever. Were the bad rockers where the debris was???

My first set of rockers were Harland Sharps and they worked well, I later decided to step up to a Comp Stainless Pro Magnum once the cams got to .750 lift. I wanted the added strength for piece of mind.

The debris was more or less scattered around the top of the head. Mostly around the spring pockets and areas where oil can get in but not drain all the way.

In all honesty there wasn't too many shavings in the lifter valley. A few in the lifter groove but not nearly as many sitting on top of the head. The pic of my finger came from a corner where oil puddles and can't really drain. The casting flash of the head more or less acted like a strainer.

For the rockers I have heard a lot of awesome things about both Harland and scorpos. I have a friend with scorpos and my dad's olds has garlands. Neither one has had any issues at all. There's only a $40 difference.

With the money im looking at spending for the roller swap I don't think the chromoly or stainless rockers are in the budget. I don't plan on running a crazy cam. Solid roller, .640 lift-ish. Not sure yet.

The Harland Sharps I ran on my 496 with a solid roller around .680 lift and back then I had Dart 290 oval ports.
I was not suggesting you need anything too exotic for your application for me with the amount of spring pressure I run I wanted something stronger than extruded aluminum.

I hear ya. I just showed my neighbor the lifter with the ring in the bottom and he says without a doubt it's on its way out. Now to figure out if it is the culprit of the shavings or if the rocker arms failing caused the lifter failure. Good thing I have this Buick 455 to sell so I can get this engine going by summer. I will know more tomarow hopefully when the cut the filter open.
