The 1978 wagon is nearing completion and included in the improvements is the addition of a Camaro quick ratio steering box.

Question: To get the power steering hoses to connect correctly to the new box, where do I get adapters to so the "old" hose threads fit the newer style box? Looks like there needs to an adapter of some sort.

Thanks,

George

There's a few ways to tackle this.

One is to simply change out the fitting in the back of the pump, and the other would be to cut off the end of the line, get a new fitting, and re-flare the end of the line.

Sorry I'm way too tired to find the article right now, but one of my Hemmings issues mentioned adapters for this application. I believe I've linked the article in another thread on here if you want to try a search.

I know they exist, just not from where... I would try Lee power steering box rebuilders (the name is something like that...). Another thing to watch out for is that you need to use a G body pitman arm. The F body one is ever so slightly longer and will make the tie rod sleeve bolts hit the frame. Yeah, I do kinda know that one from experience...

I would also try using a newer G body pressure hose. If it mates to the pump, you won't need an adapter as it will be the right size and have the right fittings. The final option would be to have a line custom made by a local hose shop that can use the pump side fitting for the pump you have and the box side fitting for the metric box. Then again, it would probably just be cheaper to go scrounge up a metric pump and hose and just use those parts.
