That's pretty cool to know on the CD01 trans. Did a little quick check just for the hell of it as to what's needed. Saw one trans from direct Japanese importer for $550 , you pick up .Ok not bad. Then the front plate & pilot bearing adapter from Collins $500. A little labor swapping it. Then their clutch disc with center listed for ls flywheel & pressure plate $300. Then for ls application as listed, you need flywheel & pressure plate. Need 98 to 02 f-body bellhousing for ls, I'm sure there are aftermarket versions for ls & gen 1 engines. On clutch disc to fit cd trans splines to ls or gen 1 engines, a full service clutch rebuild shop may be able to swap centers between discs. Could be a little hassle here matching components. Probably other supplier options.
Shifter looks way the hell back there, not sure how that would work out or what options there are for that issue??? Free to a few hundred there.
Not sure about speedo hookup, & wiring. Backup light switch, neutral switch, reverse lockout switch etc??? Wire connectors?? Not much to a few hundred there.
Output shaft size & spline count?? total length for driveshaft?? A few hundred plus there.
Then you need the f-body type slave bearing, line, master cylinder & custom mount, & pedals. Few hundred plus more.

I'm just trying to make an initial what to think of list. Still sounds like a decent option, but the adapter plate & adapter clutch disc alone Make this a not cheap or easy swap.
Would be interested to know more about this swap though, mainly just to pass it on to others.

EDIT, did a little more googling on this subject. Probably anybody's adapters are meant towards LS engines, not gen 1, so extra issues matching things. Honestly I'm back at my first recommendation of sourcing out an lt1 t-56 or even a beat up affordable entire car to part out.
Parts can be sourced out through many salvage yards.

I got lucky and bought my lt1 t56 for $500 and trade for a disassembled 5.3 since they guy wanted to go turbo auto LS in his lt1 camaro. Got lucky and he posted t56 for trade for LS parts. No price so I had to inquire. It didnt have the flywheel or clutch but since I put it on a LS it didnt matter.

It's either get lucky and find one like I did, buy one for full price, or buy a beat ls1 camaro with an LS1/t56 and part the car out. Lt1 cars go for like 2-3k anyways in poor shape so part it out and get the trans for 1000-1500.
