Heater core is made of aluminum, and is new. What would a temp gun solve? To see if there is still coolant flow behind the heater valve?
Check the ground issue to see if it is causing a parasitic temp gauge increase. To me it seems like something with the heater core and/or heater hoses. Double check that the hoses are set up for correct flow. Then check the heater valve and it's vacuum connection. I haven't went back to check ealier post to see if the core is new or what it's made out of. As for the radiator what did you refernce to which one you needed? If that is the issue look into a SBC 350/HD cooling listing. Rock Auto does have that new vender with all aluminum radiators that should fit like an OE unit. Closing of any interior heater door for hot or cold air should not affect engine temp unless one of those vacuum circuits is connected wrong.
The radiator is just a cheapo v8 g body replacement radiator. I still can't wrap my head around a ground issue being the cause of the temp swing, ONLY when I do a specific action. I'll check out those rock auto radiators. The only g body that had a 350 were the mexican montes, as far as I know. I could get a diesel radiator...
I found these for a 5.7 diesel cutlass... https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...8+diesel,1222681,cooling+system,radiator,2172
2 or 3 row?

All the vacuum lines seem correct, grey to heater valve, black from engine to ball, purple from ball to interior controls.

Cant seem to find a heavyduty specific radiator just the standard aluminum replacements.

I expained it back on page 2, it will verify the temperature of the coolant so you can check to see if the gauge premature is correct

Not to mention they are just a great tool to have. Especially since they are fairly cheap these days
