Car gets hot with ac lever on cold?

It's less like 10 seconds more like 30, but that's still an abnormal sweep in temp.
 

if you have a weak engine ground the engine will try grounding through your mechanical temperature sensor and cause improper temperature readings. If you used a laser temp gun to confirm the temperatures it would help to find out what the actual problem is.
 
Yes. MAX AC and blend door to cold. Gets up pretty near 220ish but within a minute or two of switching it back to non AC and hot on the blend door it goes back down.


So when you eliminated the heater core and you moved the ac/heat handle it still overheated?????

Trying to remember... I don't actually know. I said yes, but I might have been thinking of another time. This weekend I'll loop the hoses and see if it does it to be sure.
I wouldn't think it would, but that's what experiments are for.
 
If you eliminate the heater core and just loop the pump to intake NOTHING should happen when u turn on off upside down or anything
 
Radiator is too small- get an aftermarket aluminum replacement.
Thats what this one is... But its only like 1.5 inches thick and plastic tanks.

Yes, that does seem like what would be the outcome. No heating of the heater core. I was going to replace the rad anyway because mine is dinky.... Stay tuned. Mods please keep the thread open. This is an ongoing investigation.

Check the ground issue to see if it is causing a parasitic temp gauge increase. To me it seems like something with the heater core and/or heater hoses. Double check that the hoses are set up for correct flow. Then check the heater valve and it's vacuum connection. I haven't went back to check ealier post to see if the core is new or what it's made out of. As for the radiator what did you refernce to which one you needed? If that is the issue look into a SBC 350/HD cooling listing. Rock Auto does have that new vender with all aluminum radiators that should fit like an OE unit. Closing of any interior heater door for hot or cold air should not affect engine temp unless one of those vacuum circuits is connected wrong.
 
why don't you want to get a laser temp gun instead of guessing what the problem is and possibly spending money to buy parts that you may not need.
 
Did you hook up the ground that goes to the heater core?
