If you broke the cam in with no issues......

Take the air cleaner off start the car look to see if the primarys or secondarys are dripping.

Sounds like one of your needle and seat need to be cleaned out or replaced.

Very common and very easy/cheap fix

Yes the cam shaft was broken in without issue. I change the oil and next day it fired up easily and idled fine for about 5 min and drove fine for about 5 min. Then all the sudden she just didn't want to stay running.

I got that broken key out and started it up again.. This time I had to give even more gas to start up and it wanted to stall even more than it did before. I could not keep it running at all.

I am going to re watch your helpful video there and then re tackle this issue again tomorrow. I dont think it needs to be cleaner or replaced just because it was rebuilt last month.. that being said you never know if some debris got in there or something and is causing problems now. Hopefully that's all it is though so I can get back out on the road tomorrow

Hey guys.. I fibally had some time today to figure out my carb situation and try and get my car to run.

I think I may have found the issue..

I unhooked my gas line from the carb and had a white rag under to soak up the fuel. I noticed right away that it was an orange colour. I just put a brand new tank and sending unit in and all fresh 94 octane gas. I figured maybe the higher octane gas has a different colour to it. So then I went to the same gas canister I used to fill up my gas tank (still had some gas in it) and I when I poured some out it came out perfectly clear with no orange colouring to it.

Could bad gas have been the cause of all these issues? Also how would the gas have even gotten contaminated?

And should I be draining all of the gas out and replacing it or can I simply put an inline fuel filter in there to filter out any impurities?

Thanks in advance for any help

Dave

Bad gas could have absolutely been the issue. Run the pi$$ out of it, then check the plugs.

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. Tomorrow I am heading off to the parts store to grab 2 inline fuel filters, one before the fuel pump and one after. I really wish I had thought of doing that before but I guess better late than never.

I still dont understand why the gas was such an orange color though when the tank is brand new and the gas has only been in it for no more than 1 month.. but it is what it is. I also took the float valves out and cleaned them up and out them back in the carb. I adjusted them for slightly less fuel as well because the float bowls seemed a little too full when i took the sight screw out. hopefully with all these steps that car will fire right back up and run good for its second trip out.

also anyone know if a fogged up fuel pressure gauge is fixable? for some reason my brand new one from jegs went foggy instantly to the point where it is unreadable. The part shop near my house wants $50 for the one they have in stock so I'd prefer to fix the old one some how if its possible.

thanks again

Dave
