my steering wheel shakes a bit and chirps when its close to lock and im not moving..my belt is just a hair too big and steering pump out of tentioning adjustment..i just need to find an ever so slightly smaller belt..if your belt is worn it will slip and can cause this..hard to tell without seeing it/hearing it

I checked the tension of the belt, and it really didn't seem very loose. I still haven't messed with it, so I haven't entirely ruled out the possibility of a worn/loose belt, but are there Any other possibilities? Keep in mind the car was shaking pretty bad.

Worn and/or loose belt
Shaking because when you make a sharp turn it puts a load on the power steering pump which loads down the engine which may cause the engine to run a little rough. Its not a big deal. Replace the belt and make sure it is TIGHT

Today, I'll put clean fluid in (I know you don't have to replace it by mine looks awfully dirty) and I'll replace the belt. Most likely it is a maintenance thing, keeping in mind I bought the car from a guy who owned it for 6 years and never ONCE did he change the oil.

remember, it takes less effort to turn the front wheels while the car is moving.... this is probably the reason for it happening all @ once. even the slightest loosness will cause alot of noise and these same symptoms.

let us know what you find.

You should change all your fluids on a vehicle specific schedule. Including the ps fluid.

Yeah I siphoned as much fluid out as I could, sure enough it was black, so I put new fluid in, and tried it, the squealing is about the same but the shaking is almost entirely gone. And the belt is definately loose/ worn, so I'll get around to replacing that later this week.

And, hey, do our cars kinda look the same or what?

well i put new fluid in and retightened the belt, and for some reason, the car is still doing this. any other suggestions?

did you make sure you got all of the air out of the system?

No I haven't, that would explain the squealing but not the shaking. I might as well give it a try, to eliminate one more thing.
