I build cars only to suit myself. Yeah, it makes me feel better if someone likes the car, but I don't lose any sleep if they don't. I just don't enter car shows any more like I used to. Win some, don't win some. Don't really care. There's always a clique going on in almost every venue. It was always about the experience. I like it more when cars are judged by those who actually know what the car should have and what it shouldn't, although most of the time, the judges that are supposed to know somehow lack some knowledge on some of the cars they judge.

The ones that suck the most IMO is these "people's choice" ones, which usually are slanted toward the ooh and ahh crap of mountains of chrome under the hood of a rusty Vega and now it is deemed to place when a correctly and meticulously restored Monte SS sits right next to it and loses out without a thing to show for it. Mint Cellular has ads out that state it best: "That's not right." I particularly like the non-judged shows that just allow you to bring out what you got and display it. Still have a lot of fun at those. I'm into car p*rn, so just looking at all the cool iron, finished, restored, survivor, body on a trailer, whatever....it's all good.

That said, anyone who enters a car show with the goal of winning some trinket does so for the wrong reasons. Period. I always entered shows as a chance to participate in the automotive scene and yes, to show the public my own wheels as well. You meet all sorts of new people. The cars bring us together, and the people are what makes the difference, not the trophies. I've seen people literally sulk and get pissed off because they didn't win their class. I mean, mental breakdown stuff. Those people need to stay the f**k home. And, sometimes, I must admit, it's just because you get a better parking spot to the other festivities.

And if they tell you there will be an entry fee, it's your choice to pay it or don't. Don't sweat it. Enjoy.

CAUTION !! Don't read anymore of my car show success stories.

REALLY disappointed with these statements. You guys ALL have my respect, but you guys sound like a bunch of b*tches. Car shows, Rod Runs, Street Meets, Cruise In's, Power Tour, Cruising the Coast... it's all part of my passion. If you can't support the Promoters, venues, costs involved ( Insurance, printing flyers, websites, security, trophies, giveaways, live entertainment, rentals, etc. ) you need to find another hobby. I can't tell you how many GOOD people I have met at these " paid " events. A few of them are right here on this forum. But then again... I guess I'm just part of a GBodyForum "click", and don't deserve their friendship... I'll start another thread, in a different section, and tell you guys all about my 54th win in a row with my GBody. You ought to be proud... I beat the sh*t out of $150K cars all the time. Guess what??
I disappoint people, too.... There's my car show rant.😛

Easy JAMCAR, a lot of us have been there and done that and enjoyed it a the time. Myself included, I've just moved on to the free cruises and bullshit sessions for a hour or two instead of all day. I still like, Car shows, Rod runs, Street Meets , Cruise in's and Swap Meets. In fact The car club I'm in does a Cruise every week in the Summer and we usually have over a hundred cars FREE to all. Here's about half the Trophies I got with my G-body the rest I've given away to the Scouts and other organizations. Don't stop posting you're wins I enjoy you're enthusiasm.

Over here we only have a limited number of car shows, so I try to attend as many as my time allows. Usually 4-5 a year, whereas the smallest one is my favourite one. About 80 cars max. and a nice mix of vehicles, from stock Tin Lizzy to Hellcat Wranglers. I just like to meet the people behind the cars and look at the cars. May it be the old school blown 900hp '69 El Camino or that like new and fully stock restored '79 Camaro.
What bugs me a bit is that you can't walk around the bigger shows without literally get run over by new Mustangs or Camaros since they're officially sold here. It's usually the same kind of people driving these cars that drove the ghetto pimped 3series bimmer before.

A lot f its is ego at car shows anymore. I have seen cars that are supposed to "daily drivers" come in on enclosed trailers . And the car are just giant "toys" who are only made for show only Not enjoyed the driving experience.
