Having nothing but trouble since I put on this different carb. Just totally overhauled it too.

The trouble is, I can never get the damn thing started unless the pedal is TOTALLY to the floor. Then it kinda sputters to life, then gotta clear its throat a little with a couple of revs. Then it dies sometimes and you have to repeat until it finally decides to go.

Once it gets going, its totally fine at idle and about to half throttle, doesn't miss a beat then. Until you put the pedal down further. Then it starts stumbling and slowly dies on you in gear rolling down the road. Then you have to put in neutral, crank and floor it, stumble a lil, then clear it out, then put it back in drive. All while rolling along at 50 mph. Its totally insane, getting stared at while leaving the store or gas station trying to get it started.

I'm thinking its a choke problem, what do you guys think? I need it going everyday cause I gotta drive it to work for the next few weeks.

Normally, when one needs to floor the gas pedal to get the engine started, the engine is getting way too much fuel.

Remove the air filter assembly, crank as you would if you have no issues, then look down in the carburator.. If the carb/intake is soaking wet, the carb is adding too much fuel.

If your car only starts by putting the pedal to the floor the engine is flooded. Fix the problem cause the gas will wash the cylinder walls and you should change your oil

The choke thermostat is done for, choke was closed when the engine was hot, definitely not good.

Well now it starts easy again, disconnected the choke till i can get another thermostat, but I still have a pretty bad miss and not much power.

It can't be any of the ignition components, all that was replaced. It basically has new wires, plugs, a new distributor, new rotor. Has to be something to do with fuel. Just started since I swapped the carb. I'm thinking something inside the carb like the float is improperly adjusted. Its missing everywhere, idle, acceleration, cruising. Also getting pretty terrible mileage.

Everything being new doesnt mean it's adjusted properly. But, what type of carb are you running?
It does sound like it's running awfully rich. Some carbs are more affected by incorrect float level than others. If you rebuilt a quad it might very well be this is the main problem. Incorrect float adjustment.
Pull the plugs and see if you can see anything

Idk what its deal is. I'm running a rochester dualjet.

It misses no matter where the throttle is, whether it be idle, off idle, cruising, full throttle. Nothing is working right on this thing and has no power. Occasional backfiring out of the carb too.

You said you overhauled everything. What exactly did you do? I see you did plugs and wires. A miss through out the rpm range and hard start sounds like ignition issues to me. Usually an ill adjusted carb will run somewhat ok at some point. Wot for example.

Your latest post sounds like you have swapped 2 wires.. Check your firing order

I see where you guys are coming from with the ignition being the issue.

I'm looking into it now. I really just noticed that on the Buick even fire V6 distributor, not all of the spark plug posts are the equal distance from one another. I think I possibly may have the wires 1 post counter clockwise. So tomorrow after work I'll move the number 1 wire over one post, take out the distributor and set my timing to 18 degrees.

After all, I did have all the wires off. Was running waay too advanced at first, seemed to run better then.

With the plugs being back one post, it may be firing too late on half the cylinders. That explains why when I had the advance turned up it seemed better.

Well disregard that last post, took off the cap and they are even distances from each other. Just doesn't appear so on the top of the cap.

Soo...not sure where to look. Definitely seems like an ignition problem, just the way it feels. Kinda happens intermittently, just totally random, abrupt missing. I should check the coil on top of the cap, that's never been changed.
