When I changed my 82 El Caminos rear end oil it was thin and foamy. I don't think it has ever been changed. I removed all the bolts except the top one. I left it sticking out a little. I use a 1 1/2 wide steel scraper and hit it with a rubber mallet at a bolt hole near the bottom. I never use silicone. Just a new dry FelPro gasket. Never leaked in any of my G bodies. I actually changed my axle seals too cause one was leaking. I use the end of the axle to remove the seal too. Thought I would pass it on that the rear end oil is often over looked. For some of you that have not ever done this, make sure your fill plug on the right side of the center section can be removed before you pop the cover off. Mine was seized but finally got it broke loose.

that is a good suggestion, old rear end lubricant can steal hp and gas mileage. What I do with the filler plug I use and old 3/8 extension and give it a few good smacks with my mallet. If that doesn't free it I use this ..

Funny that includes a #1 phillips. Good luck applying any torque to a #1 fastener.

Save a little prayer to the car gods, and maybe sacrifice a honda to get in their good graces.
