I had a proform distributor and I wouldn't suggest anyone to make the same mistake...

Lol, that's what I figured. At 65$ there has to be some weak link, it's just temporary until I can buy a nice mallory or MSD.

Yeah when I bought it, the guy threw in the orginal gear that was on the dist. to begin with.

So why not go back to him? He owes you a gear right?

What cam are you gonna use. Because the material the cam is made out of determines what gear you need. I had a buddy smooth out a distributer gear because of this. To bad too, it was a fresh 383 sbc. He just changed the gear and did an oil change. But I think the damage was done. He only got one season (Canada) and the motor was done. So you should make sure on what gear you need.

I took apart the coil and there's a ground hangin out inside the coil box. This might have been the problem with the proform distributor. I'll fix the ground and see how it does.

The problem I had was that the timing seemed to change on a daily basis and I could never figure out what the problem was til our race car blew up its distributor during the warm up so I grabbed the proform out of my car since it was supposed to good up over 7000 revs and our race car never ran over 6500. We were losing over a second a lap with the proform distributor so we yanked out the distributor and the metal actuator for the pickup was spinning on the knurled part of the distributor shaft. I have never seen that problem on any other distributor. I tried to get a refund as the distributor was less than a year old but the retail store that sold it don't back up the products they sell and Proform wouldn't answer any emails.....

aslong as your no running a full roller cam you should be fine. those cams walk a lot and punish the gear. msd makes a composite gear that can withstand the beating. steel should be fine for your cam, but the composite one wont hurt.
