Does anybody change the backing plates on the rear axle to the later model s10 that bolt on with 4 bolts so hey can use the bolt on wheel cylinders?
I hate the clips.....
I have a couple s10 rears that have good backing plates.
I figure i could modify the gbody rear to match the square s10 with the 4 bolt holes.

you can just drill the holes in the flange on the axle tube to install those backing plates and cut the flange the same as you would when converting to disk. You can use the S 10 or the 2nd gen camaro backing plates

I figured it would be a simple swap.
The shoes and springs should all be the same?
I have the backing plates and I would only need the wheel cylinders.

the shoes are different for the 2nd gen camaro. The wheel cylinders use T pins which have a slot that slides onto the cut out on the shoe. The G body just has the piston from the cylinder sitting on the shoe. That's the only difference in the shoes. Those T pins do not come with the cylinders and I don't know where to get them new. I imagine the S 10 you're thinking of would have the same set up.

I am pretty sure the 92or so S10 has very similar brakes. The backing plate and cylinder are different but I think the shoes and hardware are pretty much the same.
I have 2 set of s10 baking plates. No worries about the cylinder moving around.
