Check out this Piston

Scat is suppose to be far superior to Eagle.

they are both made overseas,

i hate to say this pat but i would definately replace that piston!! its a hypertec with a hole in it from detonation!! its only a matter of time!!! also eagle cranks are made in the us!! i run one in my big block and shift it at 7200 rpms without problems!! when you buy a 200 dollar crank you get a piece of crap!! if your racing or using nitrous run good forged parts!! try not to listen to the guys who have a buddy who has a buddy that had a bad crank!!!

The crank I've been using is the stock one from 78-79 and I've taken the motor to 8000 rpm with no problem. I'm gonna go to a local engine shop that I know and see what the guy has lying around. Maybe he can sell me a forged crank for cheap.

I'm not running spray, all motor. That spot on the piston is more of a "chip" rather than a hole because its not that deep and doesn't go all the way through. But an individal hypereutectic piston from Speed Pro on Summit is only like 12 or 13 bucks.

I would replace that single piston, and that's it. We've used that exact piston in circle track engines for years. Running at 68oo rpm, never had one issue. It is an excellent value in pistons. I assume you meant the hole is one millimeter deep, not centimeter other wise it would be near through the piston head.
Far as those bitching about the valve reliefs, your showing your ignorance, The reliefs are "as cast", the top is machined flat. Nothing wrong with them just the way they are. Leave'em alone.

Dude, get you one new piston have it swapped on the rod and put her back together

I talked with my old man and with a close friend who is an expert in engine building as he built almost all of chryslers race engines during the 60's and 70's and continues to build all types of engines today. They both looked at the piston and determined that it is not a threat. It isn't that deep, what your seeing is black carbon that filled it. He described it to me as an air bubble that was caught in the cast and simply popped within the first few miles when I built this motor back in 2007. So this piston has lasted all the way up to 8500rpm on a few occassions and 5 years of me rompin on it.

So I guess I'll end up just sticking with this piston unless I change my mind.

8500 rpm?? wow.

Yeah, but when your running a th350 and 3.73 gears its almost impossible to not be able to hit 8500 rpm. I thought I had a forged crank with my hypereutectics pistons. Then I take the motor apart and surprise surprise....cast crank. Talk about a big oops.
