Quote: That's what i was getting at. A 350 can overcome the torque disadvantage with gears, stall, and high revs. But street friendly it isn't.

The car isn't bad on the street, but your going to turn some r's on the freeway. I shift it at 6100 and it goes thru the traps at 6200.

Tons of things could be wrong. My dinky-*ss 350 in my sig gets my car in the high 13's so you got issues with the parts you selected or with the way it was assembled. Do a leak down test on each cylinder. You need to know if the basics are covered. Use a period in between sentences.

some good news ran 14.50s last nite. bad news have a head gasket cracked head just smoking at idle was fine going down track. lost about half of water in radiator per run. will let u guys know what i find out is wrong.

the oil was milky but was going thru the rings cyl 4 and 6 had water in them and found the cause of why this happened piston domes were still hitting the heads after clearancing them which let the head gasket move around have heads at shop to make sure they good not cracked warped and tearing restof motor down to make sure all is ok and clean all bad oil out thanks

Not trying to be a dck here, but if the pistons were actually contacting the heads....its time to pull it down and rebuild, period....the math on this motor is way wrong, compression is way wrong, cam is way wromg....you could spend less on a 305 and go faster. You want to do a budget build?
I used a stone stock bottom end smogger 350, home ported 416 casting 305ho heads, shim head gasket (0.015)
Small lunati "bare bones" cam, used performer RPM intake, stock Qjet Carb, reworked stock HEI, mid length headers to custom side pipes. Stock TH350, 4.11 gear.
Went consistent 13.40-13.30's in a fat C3 Corvette.
I had all of $500 in the motor. I had every intention to spray it into the low 12's but moved on to another project before I got the chance.
Its still being used and abused by the new owner 3 years after I built and sold it.
It doesn't have to be expensive to be "quick" and reliable, just has to be well thought out and pay attention to the details.

i am not taking it as u beeing a dick i appreciate the input good or bad i have learned alot the regular machine shop my family and i went to since 76 closed due to owner retired and we have had very minimal problems with them had to go to a new machine shop nothing but problems i am having words with them now very pissed cause they know what we had to work with and should of been correct for the money my son spent thanks

x2 on tearing the engine back down to bare block... think about it, you had the piston hitting the head, transferring all that stress to the wrist pins, rings, rod bearings, etc... first things that are going to go are the weak points... i could bet those rod bearings are in serious need of replacing... take a carton of milk, stack a few books on top of it and its no big deal, now smack those books with a hammer and that carton of milk is fuct... (that carton of milk is your bearings) aside from all the "soft" stuff needing replaced, and having to tear it down anyways to do so, i would want to have EVERYTHING checked for stress cracks... hate like hell to tear it down, build it up, and have missed a stress fracture and have a catastrophic failure when ya spin her up to 6 grand... i truly hope everything is ok and all you need to replace are all the cheap soft stuff... i am rebuilding an old 305 that threw a bearing and the piston starting hitting the head... i am going over it with a fine tooth comb...

Why would you keep running your car when you know there is a problem? You could have turned it into junk or worse yet jeopardize the track. Depending on how bad you were hitting the heads, I would I would have a hard time trusting that rotating asm. w/o having it checked. Good luck

I thought the same thing, when I read that he was aware that the pistons were hitting the heads, seems ignorant to me on more than one level..................minus the fact that (money is involved with ALL that's needed to get the engine back to GOOD) did you just win the lottery?
