So there are a couple of 2005 LM7 5.3s not far from my place for $700 complete (engine, harness, ECM). These should have the Gen IV rods, and a 24x reluctor ring - all good stuff.

I am doing everything I can to not stuff a stupid large cam in it... like this:

FML, it's on sale too.

That cam will need a dual spring. Something with .600 or less lift can get by with a PAC 1218 or 1219 single.

What cam and springs were you running?

And, ya know we all love giving advice even when it’s not asked for ;)

Used '01 Z06 cam and used LS2/LS6 springs.

I have a set of .600" lift springs waiting for the 4.8L I can stuff in here with a smaller cam (like a Sloppy Stage 2) - but, I dunno...

Maybe I should just finish the 4.8 and sit on a replacement 5.3L for Natasha's Z28. I just need to finish porting the heads. Hmm...

Seems to me a used stock LS6 spring wouldn't be up to the task of boost? Since you also state LS2, they must be the later blue striped units at least.

They came out of my TBSS at 160,000 miles. I like to party.

I'm a single ovate Pac Spring fan for cathedrals at .600 or less lift. Either 1218's or 1219's. They'll take 7500+ at close to 2 bar without issue. They are really cheap in the big picture of things - less than $200.

I'm not a porting fan on LS stuff. The people that do it for a living can't get more than another 20cfm out of them. Just add more boost and slap it together haha.

But I know you - do as you please.

Lastly, SS2 the world! That cam is hard to be beat for both performance and price imho.

I may have to concede that my intercooler-less experiment may not have yielded the results I wanted, and high IATs may have contributed to the failure (am pretty convinced it was the high cylinder pressures below 4000rpm (boost spike + load + heat x ring expansion = popped the top off the piston). I think it may be time to get an intercooler on this car.

I am considering either of these two:

The price difference is two times higher for the Treadstone, and I don't need 1200hp. I have enough 4" piping to modify the exit side of the MM unit to the TB .
