Cross flow muffler?

The first mod my Regal ever got was a Flowmaster 80 series muffler. Stock style transverse mount, single inlet, dual outlet. Sounded good. As an 18/19 year-old I would constantly put the car into a lower gear, build up rpm, and let off the gas just to hear the muffler rumble and pop.

Does a cross flow muffler do anything? I am betting nothing on a Dyno, might sound better. I guess it shows how sad those era of cars were for performance, all smoke and mirrors. My V6 Challenger has true dual exhaust, it no doubt helps it reach 305 hp.

The only thing it does is make 2 exhaust pipe tips for the "cool" factor

guys, any recommended muffer to get the dual outlets behind the wheels without modifying the stock cat back pipe? would look like this but dont need 3” pipes and chrome
I'm using a 86'- 87' Buick GN muffler- Walker 22395 - $55 on E-Bay. Dual 2 1/4" inlets and dual 2 1/4" outlets. Mounts in stock location but I'm running dual pipes all the way back with a 500 Cadillac in a 86' El Camino. Not running yet so I don't know how it'll sound but the Buick V-6 sounded good with about half the cubes.

In an article I read about the 79 Hurst Olds, it mentions how it made an extra 5 hp with the dual outlet/cross mounted muffler over the normal single outlet. Yeah I know, 5 hp, whooptie doo, but there ya go.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I want a crossflow style because it appears and mounts like stock. I'm not building a performance car though. Any extra power would of course be welcomed and yes I still wanna run a cat too. I just want it to be easy to do myself and cheap.

Why was my post underlined?....
