Dad's 62 Ford Galaxie

Jared,
this is the look I was thinking of. It's a very '60's style wheel. In fact I had a set of them on my '64 Ford Econoline van. I know I'm dating myself. This was back in the early '70's. Many '60's customs sported them.

TT2s are so played, they make me want to vomit everytime I see them.
I agree with you on the TT2's, they are extremely played out, but what I was thinking of was the Torque Thrusts with the grey centers, or spokes. More of the vintage style wheels. Here's two examples. The one on the right is more of the vintage style than the left wheel.

62 Ford is a favorite.😊 Scrolled through the pics. awesome! what engine? 406?😍
Thanks! It's a 390 with the HP390/406 heads, shorty cast iron headers and FOMOCO aluminum 4 BBL intake. It also has a toploader 4-speed with a GearVendors overdrive and out back it has 3.56 rear gears with a Ford Traction-Lok in the 9". It's just a cruiser. 😉

I get what you're saying about wheels being part of the car's identity. We went through the same thing with my grandpa's El Camino after my dad inherited it. In the end he kept the Appliance wheels that we'd always known on it. That black Ford is gonna be a stunner no matter what wheels are under it.
Looking good my friend. I would also agree with you on the side trim, but what ever the old man wants. It is his baby.
Totally agree. Thanks guys.
Jared,
The car has come a long way and is still looking better and better as it's coming together. As for the trim, it would look good with either configuration. The red in the trim does help make the black pop and gives it a nice accent.. As for the wheels, I think a set of vintage Torque Thrusts would really set it off. The Centerlines are a bit dated and certainly not period correct. Oddly enough, I think a set of old school chrome reverse steelies with the spider centers would cool and period correct. That's just my opinion. I grew up with these type of cars, much like your dad.

I like those chrome reverse wheels just fine but I don't think finding a set that weren't made in China and that would fit the car correctly (bolt circle, backspacing) would be easy. I can't say that I agree that Centerlines and Torque Thrusts are "dated" but to each of us their own. I would say a five spoke mag wheel is pretty timeless.

I do think the over-the-top iterations of different car scenes can look pretty dated like the extreme pro-street stuff from the late 80's, 70's disco vans, etc. I think in 10 or 20 years the pro-touring thing is going to look dated to some extent. I'm pretty stodgy though, so what do I know?

Thanks for all the replies friends.

Just got an update. He's going to paint the rest of the car tomorrow!

It'll look good to see the whole car in color. I was almost starting to picture it as a black and white police car....kinda like the Mayberry RFD car.
A neighbor of mine had a 4-dr version in his yard that he was looking to do a police car clone out of, but this guy has more projects than he'll ever finish.

She's all black friends. Looking forward to seeing the quarters and doors after color sanding!
