Thanks to everyone for the interest in this project and the feedback to my posts. I truly appreciate it.
Sweeeeeeeeeet! Can't wait see it done.
We're all feeling that way Bruce. Thanks for the feedback.
Looks WAY better with the red trim.
Thanks James. If it had been my car, I would have done only the spear but I like a bit less trim. I think these cars can look pretty sporty with a bit less trim on them....
Dad wanted the trim on there and that's what matters. He's going to put most of the trim back on the car and I have not doubt it's going to look stunning.
Great to finally see paint and trim go on it Jared! Your dad must be super pleased.
What’s the story with the wheels? Are they staying or getting switched to something more period correct, or...???
Just curious because the more it comes together the less those old CenterLine Auto Drags seem to suit it IMO.
Thanks Donovan. We're all thrilled with the progress and that after 31 years this is finally happening. I personally really like the Auto Drags. I suppose they aren't really period correct though since I believe Centerline started in 1970 and the Auto Drag came out in 1971. A Cragar S/S or an American Racing Torque Thrust would be more period correct I suppose since those go back to around 1964. Keystone Klassics also look really good on these cars. Coming up with wheels to fit this car is not a breeze with the combination on the 5x4.5" bolt pattern and shallow backspacing this car requires.
To me the Auto Drags are part of the car's identity since they've been on there for about 20 years. Dad's preference at that time we bought the Centerlines was either Keystones or Cragar S/S wheels but there were only available in Uni-lug at that time, which Dad was dead set against. Before the Centerlines, the car had 14" aluminum slots on it, which I don't think are period correct either but looked great. I suppose it's possible he could make a change but it isn't a priority now. I for one really don't like the look of the tall skinny tires on the painted stamped steel wheels with hubcaps.
Our focus this summer will be installing the trim, getting the headliner installed, installing the door panels, re-charging the A/C, changing fluids and working out any bugs from it being at the painter's house the past 10 or 11 months. We'll get the Galaxie "finished" this summer and I should wrap up most of what I want to do to the
Roadmaster as well. Sean and Dad are chomping at the bit to help me on the GP so hopefully that happens in the fall. Who knows, if it goes real well with the Galaxie this summer, it could go to my storage under a car cover and we could put the GP in Dad's air conditioned garage and get something done. We'll see. The priority is getting this car "finished."
Thanks friends.
