Then build it your way...just please don't half-*ss it.

LOL.. I think part of the reason you're not getting much help is because not many of us are worried about poly motor mounts. I would contribute but can't offer much to the subject. With that kind of HP, your car should do well at the strip.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

I'm doing GM a favor by putting the muscle in what looks like a muscle car but never ran like one. And with almost 10k in just the motor, there will be no half *ss work here. I went to great lenghts just to make sure it fits under the flat hood because a big hood scoop would look cheap. Running the original rally wheels, just had the gold repainted so the car looks factory new.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

The reason Oldsmobile came with non oldsmotors was due to the popularity of the cars that they had to throw chevy's in them. When I got my cutlass and seen people on youtube talking about sbc in a olds wtf, I would comment so what it's all gm. Imo once you get into Oldsmobiles you get a sertion love and respect for them, I state that due to I almost put a sbc in mine when my 307 went out due to it was burning oil and had no idea and locked up. (my post about a sbc in my car below)I constantly have people saying put in a lt1 put in a ls1, I won't due to it's a olds and deserves to be one. Do I dislike anyone that does different to their g body hell no. Imo do I think it should be done differently yes, does that matter to anyone other than me no. Do I agree with clutter of sbc ish in the oldsmobile section that can be found via searching google or via the gbf search feature, yes I do. But most cases the individuals that do that this are noobs and they will learn how to use the features of the site. In regards to members on the forum putting down others ideas I fell thats the nature of the beast. All forums have a crowd of individuals that fell one way and others that do. But when it comes down to it does that ish matter no. As stated prior no one puts money or controls your actions on choices for your car no. We are all people with are own opinions so the merit of one persons statement is determined by the individual that hears it, I hope you enjoy the site and your cool dart powered olds.

Hello this is my first post and thread on Gbodyforum...

Lol lets get to business I have a 83 cutlass with the original 307 olds in it. Motor went out on me with in a week of having the car and changing the oil. I found out I was burning oil out the tail pipe, I am looking in to motor options. I am very mechanically inclined, I have done multiple install from the usual stuff like alternators Chevy heads to dsm(Mitsubishi) head installs.

What I want to know what is a pretty fast swap for my car that will give me some good power and be reliable. I don't care if its Olds or Chevy. Also I have a turbo 350 in it so I have a transmission to work with.

Also if I take the care to have someone to install the motor. What is a realistic price to be charged? Reason I ask this is due t I, work full time and it might be less of a headache to drop off car at a shop and have the install being done while I work some overtime or chill with my misses.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

I see a lot jerk *ss comments from guys running sbc's in their cars. It seems they know best, all the rest of us are retarded. GM's wisdom has ran the company into the ground. Why bother with the out dated sbc? The LS series makes much more sense, much better heads, stronger block etc. I know the Dart based block is superior to a regular sbc, similar to the Olds DX.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

jociha already has a Dart based sbc that he spent a lot of money on and that is what is going in his car.
This isn't up for debate.
I don't recall the post saying:
" I have a 442 and I need your guys opinions on what kind of engine I should put in it that will make good power?"
As for the original question as I already stated I think solid mounts will work best.
Can we move on to next question please.

In all seriousness, If I had a nice 10K dart motor sitting around I'd probably be doing the same thing. Paint it gold and put rocket stickers all over it.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Agree. The Dart based motor is how GM should have built the sbc. Flog the hell of it and enjoy. Have fun. Many people jumped on DoubleV. Just pointed out, he wasn't only one being rude.
