DAYTONA 500 Sunday

You, are one ignorant f*k
Yeah, really. Have you ever wondered why they stay under 200mph? What happened to all the anti-lift flaps and all that crap they instituted years ago? Didn't seem to work so good. Granted, the cars are safer as he is still alive, but in the end, he lost it (ran out of talent). All these guys are perpetually playing with each others aero; it's ALL they do. He knew the other guy was back there because he tried to block him.

the reason why they won't slow the cars down or change the rules is because alot of the "fans" watch the races for the crashes. If you have enough driving skills to get a nascar license and you can bring enough sponsors with you it would not take you long to get into a cup car. There is a handfull of good drivers and the rest is just fillers to make sure that is some good wrecks to keep the 'fans" happy. .....When I was on a circle track team we got to watch the min stocks battle it out on the track. The 4 cylinder cars were not quick but those guys knew how to get the most out of the car and they put on a great show. It was a better show than the much faster pro late model cars

I guess a few of us will have to agree to disagree. I used to like nascrap, but, like anything, the corporate sponsorship has ruined it.

As far as being "ignorant", I'm sorry if the truth hurts. It's their chosen profession; the risk is part of the job. EVERY. SINGLE. RACE. Is full of drafting- bump-draft, side-draft, back-draft, up-draft, yada, yada, yada. Occasionally, things go awry. Shirt happens. You DO realize that there are people that watch HOPING THERE IS A CRASH for "excitement", don't you? Other than that, it's Spec Racing with spec cars.

I had a friend who's sponsor paid $80,000 for 4 races in the Nascar truck series. His hope was to show his skills to snag more sponsors but someone showed up with more sponsorship money and took his ride...my friend has some good races but it's more about money than it is about talent. Just like when they took a motorcycle champion and stuck him in a cup car to get the attention and money from the motorcycle racing fans. And don't forget they get a female to put her butt in a cup car and built up the drama so her lack of talent would be ignored.....it's all BS

My uncle used to save money all year to run the (then) Goody's Dash Series at Daytona. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of $12-15k for tires, fuel, and a rental car. Plus, whatever sponsor money he could round up. He eventually became (part?) owner in an ARCA team, but I think sold it off a couple of years ago.

The Arca is expensive to run, the equivalent up here is the Pinty series. My friend who had a ride in the Nascar Truck ran in the Cascar series which turned into the Pinty Series. My friend's father paid for his rides with his company Cambridge Rigging and has a 4 bay shop that emplouyed 3 full time guys to works on the cars, he had 3 cars. With that cost, the cost of the travelling equipement, hotels, fuel and tires he quit after a few seasons cause even he won every race it still costs him lots of $$$. As far as sponsorship in Canada it sucks. When we ran in the Lucas Oil series we were always a top contender but we had a difficult time getting sponsors. We couldn't even get $5,000 for the hood. We packed it in after we got tired of putting our time and money in to race at different tracks in the province.

My friend is now running a pro late model in the APC series along with races at a local track....
