Dealer Installed G-body Options/Upgrades

My GP has Cars & Concepts T-tops. Assuming that was a dealer-installed setup. Not factory anyway.

The Cutlass has a vinyl top that is just not correct, added on by somebody. It HAD a half-*ss aftermarket cruise control that was either installed by the dealer or at least by somebody trying to make it look legit, had a legit GM cruise stalk installed and wired into the aftermarket unit. That POS is gone. I'm guessing somebody wanted a Cutlass with a vinyl top and cruise and the dealer was like "yeah sure come back in 2 weeks!" and it just magically appeared.

Then there's this one on Craigslist local to me: http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5750770808.html
Looks like a dealer-invented "special edition" with the funny sail-panel badges.

There was the "W-19" Cutlass package from I think WI, a friend of mine in HS had a 1980 with the aluminum panel wrapped around the roof and sail panels.... The Cutlass GT, the Grand Prix GT, the list goes on and on. Somewhere around here there's a pic of a Grand Prix "Americana" edition with a really funky puffy vinyl top and some Cadillac looking trim...

I also had a 79 4-speed/305 Malibu with among the other scarce options was a digital AM/FM stereo-as far as I know only Malibus/Elcos with either Motorola CB's or the digital stereos got the automatic antenna. It was pretty rare to find a 78-80 Elco or Malibu especially with a factory power antenna. I found the 3-wire leads under the blower motor dis-connected....then I looked under the dash and sure enough I found the original antenna mast relay and the original wiring for the digital stereo! The car is still local somewhere (I regretfully had to sell it quite awhile back...) and that triple black Malibu had:

Buckets/console
AC
Power windows/locks
Tach/gauges
Tilt wheel
Rear defrost
RH remote mirror
Pulse/delay wipers
Landau trim package

I don't know how many triple black 4-speed Bu's were made but that one was loaded!!

like some others, my cutlass salon has one of these:

also, never knew anything about the FE2 handling package before this car.... supposed to be a good package, but the few times I've driven the car, it still feels like driving a waterbed....

My 86' Regal project car is a hardtop but has what in my opinion are stupid opera lights which I have already removed and welded up the 1" holes on each side for the wiring plug.
It looks factory installed but I don't know if they were.

Haha

I guess that you can't /shouldn't compare a 30 year old suspension to a modern design. There's also the fact that 30 years ago the gbody was an aged design..

Those opera lights were factory equipment, usually but not always on landau cars. Hope you saved them as they get brittle, especially near the ends where the screw holes go, and crack apart. Same lenses on the landau and non landau versions, but worth saving if you or someone who likes them need em.

Hmmmm.... I have a few G-Bodies. My one cutlass has the Landau top along with an ASC sun roof. I was at a junk yard one time and they wouldn't sell me the entire car that hadn't been touched, it was beautiful with low miles and also had an ASC sun roof, so I cut the entire roof off. I have a set of Oldsmobile mudflaps still in the packaging. One of the more scarce 115 MPH speedo's for my El Camino. My Grand National has the concert sound II system with the.... 5? channel equalizer. Also has the twilight sentinel option which is pretty cool. I bought from a closing out dealer a GM radio delete optioned G-Body panel. Only has an opening for the HVAC and cigarette lighter - it says "Chevrolet" where the radio opening would be. Don't forget the passenger side view mirror with lighting!

Drag this sucker back from the dead. My 88 Brougham is also water bed like. My 70 S is just as comfortable but runs circles around it in the corners. Maybe having the mighty 260 in the 70 just makes it seem that way. I will see shortly as the 260 is going in the 88.

My El Camino had a Delco AM/FM 8 track CB in it when I first got it. I think it was a dealer installed option.
