As the title says,I need a cheap way to have good gears for my cutlass.I already know i need a spacer plate for the truck gears, but can i pick any 91 s10 with a 7.5 and be sure it has 373s?

They are not all 3.73s. Check the glovebox door for RPO codes. I can't recall off the top of my head what the specific 3.73 code is. If you do a search I'm sure there will be several posts listing the codes for each ratio.

Also if you get gears from a 82-86 possibly even 87 the carrier should have the 26 spline side gears as well. Then you dont need to find or make a ring gear spacer. I believe they stopped selling them for the 7.5" diffs now.
82-91 F-bodies should also have the right carriers. They may have swapped to the 28 spline in later years as well though.

the z28's and irocs didnt come with 3.73 gears
i think some early 3rd gen f body v6 cars did but they wont be posi
i belive the changeover for the 26 to 28 spline posis in 3rd gen f bodies was 87 or 88

Well, yes, some Z-28's and IROC's came with 3.73's. It was part of the L69 engine option package which is the rare HO 305. They were also used in some TPI 305 5 speed cars as well, but are hard to come by. As for the S-10, some 4 cylinder models have 4.10 gears. Also, some V6 F bodies have 3.23's.

and 4:10's!

i stand corrected, according to http://www.thirdgen.org/techdb
some, and very few did come factory with 3.73 in manual transmission cars only

GM RPO codes as follows: GU6 is 3:42, GT4 is 3:73, and GT5 is 4:10. All of these were offered on the S10 trucks. Most of the GT5 rears were in 4cyl auto trucks. These codes are also correct for most GM vehicles incl full size trucks.
