Is it possible for an 85-87 442 to have an open dif or limited slip? I either got a great deal or got screwed. My *ss is starting to hurt already.

no all of them had a posi only some did

I believe you mean not all of them did.
Posi was an option, not standard equiptment.
If the RPO label is still in place under the deck lid, look for G80, that's the code for a posi rear.

Posi or not, it still has the 8.5 rear...

I feel better now. I got the 8.5 with sway bar for $200, but its not posi. Now whats the best way to fix up the Pumpkin for fun street use? I'm on a budget of course.

Oh, I also cannot believe the itty bitty strap of steel thats attached to the front of the u joint thats supposed to keep the drive shaft in place...and horsepower to the wheels....and move a 3500 pound car down the road! Tiny.

I wish the transmission had still been in it and the driveshaft too but they were long gone. Tips on what to do now?

G80 is posi? I think I saw that on mine.

G80 is the RPO for posi, but before you get too excited remember that in almost 30 years a lot of things can change ... differentials, trunk lids. That thing could have even failed. The ONLY way to be 100% sure is to check for posi operation. Does your car really have a 3800 series? or is it the earlier design Buick 231 that came stock?

If you saw that on your RPO label, your trunk lid has been replaced.
RPO labels didn't start until '84.
Your car being an '81 will not have one under the trunk lid from the factory.
Now if you saw it on your build sheet, then that's a different story.

lol owning an 81 (and having had 2 newer ones), you'd think I'd recall this.

Easy mistake to make...
I spent about 2 hours pulling stuff apart in my '83 wagon looking for the RPO label, only to realize that it never had one to begin with!
