So number one can be any of the eights spots on the cap, as long as the rotor is at that same spot. I have seen and used this numerous times and have never had a problem.
yep....thats what I was referring to.

there are reasons distributors are set up like they are...a SBC has it set up so the distributor can be tweaked without the vacuum advance mechanism striking something..also it gives easy access to the vacuum line and to the wiring on the other side of the cap...and when putting on ignition wires made for the engine they fit as designed. Of course if you want to be different then help yourself but I run moroso wires that are numbered so it makes sense to have my distributor installed as intended..
