I have a TH350 trans i am putting into my '86 Regal. The problem i've run into is that the trans is touching the driveshaft tunnel and still needs to go back another 2" in order to bolt it to the trans mount. Do i need a different trans mount? I'm currently dtrying to use the factory mount, car had a V8 307 in it before.

Also, the factory driveshaft seems to be about 4" too long   What can i do to remedy this? Any other cars to get one from?

The trans is as far towards the back of the car as possible and the top of the tailshaft is hitting the floor of the car and the front of the trans is all the way up against the firewall so even if i could install like this, i wouldn't be able to get the trans to engine bolts in. Trans is about 1/4" from the bolt holes for the mount lining up.

Please help, car is outside with windows down so i have to get this done tonight so i can put it back in garage.

How long is the tailshaft on your transmission? I have a short tail (6") TH350 in my car and I was able to use the stock metric 200 driveshaft and it did not hit the trans tunnel anywhere. If your trans has a 9" or 12" tailshaft it would explain the problems you are having.

The tailshaft is 6" and total trans is 28" so it's definatley a TH350 with a short tail. Since i've ordered this crossmember so that i can run true duals, will i be good to go? (just basically wasted an afternoon because i was trying to get ahead of the project) 🙁

As for the driveshaft though, will the new crossmember trans mount location be forward enough and allow me to still use the factory metric 200 driveshaft? since the TH350 trans is 1" shorter and the trans mount looks to be 5 1/2" forward of where the orignal was.

What kind of car did you do the swap on? I ask because i've heard that i could also use a crossmember for a Monte that originally had a 305 in it.

Anyone? I'm hoping i don't end up installing and removing trans again due to something not fitting

I have the double hump crossmember for the 700R4 and I used a stock mount. No Problem at all just tell the parts guy your application and he will match it

Were you able to use the factory driveshaft and shift linkage still?

what engine is or was in the car should not matter. If your car had a th200 or th350 then a short shaft th350 will fit with no issues. Are you sure the X-member is mounted correctly (cars 83 and up had 2 sets of Xmember holes on the driver's side)? Saying the driveshaft is too long really makes me wonder about the tailshaft size. There should only be 2 factory driveshafts for G-body Sedans ... one for 7.5" and one for 8.5" differential cars ... the difference in length was about 1". Try and take some pictures.

Oh wow, in that picture, it seems i'll be running the crossmember a lot more forward than where it is now which would definatley have the trans itself sitting more forward(when i had it almost lined up and the tail was wedged against the trans tunnel, the trans seemed a few inches too far back and up against the firewall).

The crossmember on the car is factory and is in the same position as other regals i've had. So, looks like the new crossmember from jegs needs to be mounted forward(on the driver side) of where the current one is.
