I just finished taking the rocker mouldings off the car tomnight. yes, they did live up to the nickname "rotter" moulding. :x

the drivers door is definitely fixable(just surface rust mainly), but the passenger door is in bad shape. I haven't ever done any rust repair, but i think it is way to bad to save. there is about an 8 in. section gone in the middle of the door on the bottom edge/lip, and the layers are seperated probably from water sitting in there.

my question is, can i get a door skin to fix this, or should i get a door from a junkyard? either or, what would be the price difference or the safest way to go? the local yard has plenty of cutlass's so getting a door is no problem.

also a question about a door skin.

does the skin have the bottom lip that is rolled up under the inner half of the door?
and where does the skin start from?

Just Karter- i don't know how far of a drive it is from NY but you would be able to find one at the yard here!

A factory skin would have a 90 degree lip around the edges that you have to fold over using flanging pliers and a hammer and dolly. Then, you would have to tack weld it to the frame, and caulk it. But before you can do any of that, you would have to fix the door frame structure where it is rotted out. However, this is expensive, and a lot of work to do. It honestly is easier and cheaper to replace the door if that option is available to you. I replaced both of mine with 2 doors that were rust free everywhere-including the pinch welds, included power windows and locks, and I think I spent just under $150. It did take a while to find the pretty much perfect doors I wanted though, and I had to pay a higher price for one because the yard knew what they had. It was a few years back, but I think one was $35 and the other $100.
