double humps vs. vortec

Yes, you should be able to use a standard lenght(non vortec) push rod. Unless you are going with a roller cam, then use the stock lenght for a vortec motor.

I used the stock pushrods for my vortec heads.....and make sure you use self aligning rockers

sweet autozone wants 8 bucks per pushrod for the vortec ones hah

That's crazy! O'Reilly's only wants 3.49, and I still consider that expensive. Older small blocks only cost a lttle over a dollar a piece.

well the only thing about the 1.6 is my cam right now is already a 480 lift and from what i understand thats about max on vortecs. and ive heard from a few people vortecs dont like too much lift to begin with. Is it worth it to go with the stiffer springs and run a higher lift cam? or go with the 1.6 and my cam and have round 510

Theres no way your running that .480 cam without machine work. When people say .480 is the max lift they mean best case scenario. I've seen reports of heads that couldnt take .460 stock.

You really need to pull the springs off and check the guide to retainer clearance. Honestly its really worth it to pump the $500 into them and have a valve job done, put in guide plates, screw in studs and grind down the guide.

well damn thats pretty weak lol. ill talk to my buddy about having some work done to them. Glad i bought the double humps too time to build another motor with a nice heavy cam haha

Yeah but thats working backwards. Theres no reason to put super huge cams in stuff to make power. Go more cubes or get a power adder.

I bet you'd be way happier with a .500 lift cam on a vortec headed motor (with the proper machine work obviously) than you would be camel hump heads and a big 560+ cam.
