There is a problem, that much I do know. All the vacuum lines are hooked up, everything on the HVAC side works as it should. The only thing that isn't "new" in the entire cooling system is the radiator itself. Its a few years old, and as mentioned above has seen some sh*t.

until you can confirm the tempature of the collant then you do not knwo if there is a problem. Like I said if my car runs hot then it takes far longer than 10 seconds to drop the temperature 25 degrees so I do not think your readings are correct. Plus have you tested to see if you have a good ground on the engine?

Anyone got a part number for an all aluminum radiator that fits in the factory rubber saddles? Looked around and didn't get a clear answer. Any help is appreciated. I'm using a cutlass top plate and shroud if it matters. Hose locations in standard positions. Preferably under $300 bucks. Thanks.
There are two & three row OE replacement options available on RockAuto in the $150 range..

I still don't think grounding is the issue since it only does it with blend door position. It's not electrical in anyway.

Yeah.... I saw those. Never heard of most of the companies though. Was mainly looking for reccomendations and specific part numbers from people who have put larger radiators in their cars.

Outside of the Olds 403 engine, most GM V8 engines from this generation are relatively easy to cool so you shouldn't require any exotic radiators to do the job. In my mind, a good quality OE fit aluminum radiator should do the job. Purchasing one from one of the supporting vendors is also a win-win in my book.

my 81 malibu has the larger (i'll call it a 28 1/2 core and 34 total wide) radiator in it now. i'm going from the dual electric fans to the factory cooling set up.new clutch and 7 blade fan and 160 thermo. i am now making modifications to the 26 1/2 stock shroud to fit the larger radiator i have. fan placement is very critical to the set up. i'm going to go with this larger copper rad. for now cause it works pretty good but i'll dump the electric fans. the super expensive electric fans would probably do the job but i got tired watching my volt gauge go from 13 v to 9 at idle when the fans kicked on. also eliminated the fan controller and wiring and relays for a more simple set up. when it's time for a new rad. i'll go with the factory size with extra rows for good cooling and not have to deal with modifications to the shroud. as i said before, set up worked pretty good but on some 90 degree days and in traffic i saw it bump up a bit so i got out of town fast. i'm not too sure the electric fans that we can afford nowadays is a good match for our old radiators. does not seem to draw very good through those older copper rads. That larger 28.5" core rad mentioned above will not fit without cutting up the core, that is my plan since my 70S will be getting a large two core rad and I have a recored 2 core that cools the 350 fine but will require some rad support cutting. The Champion 3 core fit fine but I would rather get the 2 core with 1" tubes. It ran from 195 to 215 with a 403. In my Olds powered Z71, maybe 185 tops, airflow makes a difference. Are your air dams intact?
