How do I install a second battery into my electrical system. I am going to use my 2nd battery for my small audio amps for my inside speakers. i know if I just hook it up to my amps etc. the power will die out quicker because it doesnt charge off of an alternator. Anyone with experience in a dual battery setup please chime in. Thanks

Easy way would be with a battery isolator.

Alternator out goes to the isolator which has 2 output terminals.

Hook the "car" feed to one side and your stereo stuff to the other.

Nice thing about them is if you sit somewhere listening to tunes and the battery dies, only the "stereo" battery is dead.

Just start the car and drive off, the stereo battery will recharge while driving.

I did this on a old VW, had a 12v aux heater with 2 fans hooked to a second battery with an isolator.

Even made a small jumper cable to jump the positive terminals if I left my lights on or something.

They had a common ground so only needed one wire.

People would look at me funny when I would lift up the back seat and "jump myself", that just sounds wrong. 😉

You really don't need 2 batteries for your stereo equipment all you need is a capacitor. I have 3 amps putting out a total of about 800 watts and they all get the power from the capacitor and my alternator consistently puts out 14 volts with little draw from my battery.

I think I seen a factory 2nd battery set up in the for sale section.

Yeah Im gonna get some caps too but when I install all 4 of my subs Im gonna be running aroung 6000 watts so Im just hooking a 2nd and maybe a 3rd battery anyway.

with 3 batteries you can the first one here that can claim they almost have a hybrid G body...

its nothing new. One of my buddies has 4 dry cell batteries in his tahoe trunk and he has 6 powerbass 15's. he doesnt even turn them up halfway and you can hear them from far away.

6,000 watts>>???? what the hell kind of amps are they NUCLEAR??? Not many subs can handle 6,000 watts!and not many amps can put out 6,000 watts RMS. what brands are they. I would love to see some pics of your setup. With all that weight your car will have to be jacked up.

if you expecting an amp to give you 6,000 amps your probably going to need to find a sub that can be stable at 1 ohm. I hope you have lots of $$$$$
