bonnewagon, same idea, just done a different way.

Your switch is dumb, meaning you have to switch it, that's all.

The battery isolator is a one way gate, voltage flows to the batteries but not to each other.

There are also voltage sensing ones that use what looks like starter soleniod to switch automatically.

All have pros and cons.
 
Thank's Shotgun, I never heard of those. Sounds better for a car. On a boat you want to be able to disconnect both batteries to prevent current leakage and possible electrolisis damage.
 
The alternator is the key. You can add 100 batteries if you'd like but if you cant keep them charged they aren't doing any good.
