If he "thinks" it's a 302...................... it's not.

If you have a true 302 you KNOW what you have.

It's probably a 305

Maybe it's a Ford 302?

Could be worse, a 267

C'mon now! 267s are great....all the power of a 6 cylinder with the fuel economy of a BB.

<------- There's one in that old bucket over there

Im gonna see the car tomorrow. The guy that has it sells cars he isnt a muscle car nut like us. LOL. He just got the chevelle on deal toward something else he had on the lot. He pulled the motor just to clean it and paint it to try to make the car look nice to resell. He put the numbers of the block in the computer and said that it came up as camaro 302 engine. Ive known him for a long time and I can guarantee it hasnt even occured to him at all that the motor could be worth anything. His plan is just cleaned, painted the motor orange, bought valve covers and chrome air cleaner to put on it. Put it back in the lot and post it on his site. And try to get as much as he can. Im trying to beat him to that because I think he can get more than he is even offering it to me for, I just cant afford to dish that out at this time. I have a bunch of repairs goin on at home.

If he painted it, just gently scuff up the small pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head on the block. There'll be a series of numbers that tell you the body it came from, but the last two letters tell you what exactly it was. If those two letters AREN'T dz, then it absolutely isn't that. If it says it you have a 25/75 chance it's real, but still more likely was faked by someone at some point.

As I said before, 3932386 blocks came as 2 bolt and 4 bolt, 302, 327, and 350 displacements. Date code might be fall '68 but still can be a 2 bolt 327 since, like I said before, the one in my truck was a October casting, correct for a '69 model, but was machined out as a 2 bolt 327 for a 4 door passenger car.

If the engine is already out make him an offer on it.

The car isn't numbers matching so he can grab a GM crate for under 2k and put that back in it.
