302? 305? Whatever... that's 3 more cubes.

Yeah, for as cool and nostalgically desirable the 302s are - there are much better ways to go faster for less.

Well we'll see thanks guys. Im not looking to pay 4k extra for the car because I think I can make it up in the motor, Im just thinking if I could get like 1500 or even 1k for the motor then I might give him what he is asking. I know the guy said it was a 302 from a camaro via the numbers on the block, its a 4 bolt because its out of the car. I dont think its a fraud because nobody is trying to sell the motor as if it has any value. I Dont really know if its a real DZ engine I just know its a 302 chevy. Ill see how it goes. maybe ill try writing all the numbers down when im there and see what I can find out about it.

If it's out of the car let him keep it.

There are guys willing to pay for muscle car era HP stuff but the market is extremely small and numbers mean everything. A 302 is valuable to the right guy, as is an LT1 , L79 or L88. But it needs to be "correct" for his application. I've sold A couple carb cores for obscene money because of their origins. So, yes, a DZ302 has value. But only to a very select few.

A 302 is just a 350 block with a large journal 283 crank in it. Nothing really special and could be duplicated very easily. For a long time I wanted to put a 283 crank in a 400 block. That would make for a really neat, high revving engine

I have had a 400ci - 4 bolt main in my storage room for about 20 years. I also have a couple of z28 stainless cranks. One of these days, I'm gonna make a 355 out of them and see how fast and far it will turn up. A friend of mine built one and it outran most of the 383s in town.

I believe the 302 was the combination of the 327 ( not 350 ) and 283

Hotrodders were building this combo (calling it a 301) since the 327 came out in '62. They love compression and they love to rev. They also seem to defy the carb CFM rule too. I ran my version with a 600 then a 780. It really wanted to breathe.

The '67 302 & 327 used the same block. The '67 350 used the large journal block & crank. In '68 all SBC used large journals.
Another note is the 302 only used forged cranks, the 283 could have either forged or cast (some later engines). The '55-'57 265 also used a forged crank
