When working with a fuel tank, it is NOT so much about the gas in liquid-state that is most dangerous; be more cautious with the fumes and a spark! Those two components equates to explosive potential.

With regard to working with old gas in a vehicle, my suggestion is to drop the tank. Dropping the tank will also give you the opportunity to inspect the inside condition of tank itself. With ethanol in our gas, water accumulation in gas tanks becomes a problem. In addition, depending on how long the vehicle sat as well as the fuel level during that time, condensation is a definite issue.

Non ethanol 91 octane, a few weeks old, moisture will be less of an issue, going through an inline filter. I pressurized the tank, worked great. Of course I didn't have enough Jerry cans pulled out. I put a few liters on the floor.
