Good afternoon,
I am planning on installing a edelbrock 650 for my 305 sbc. If possible can anyone give me advice, dos and don’ts of this. Any information would be great. I’m going this route due to installing hydraulics in the near future. I do not want to have a carburetor on it to avoid having to constantly adjusting it. Any information would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The stock Qjet is superior to aftermarket carbs. Why do you want ti change it?

I plan on changing it to something that’s newer for one. And 2 I’m installing hydraulics on the car and with the car on switches it’s going to cause t.he qjet to constantly need adjustment

If that is your concern I would run a Holley with center hung floats. The really serious 4X4 guys swore by them in the pre fuel injection days.
The holley truck avenger carburetor perhaps... but it has side hung float bowls.

Qjets are designed to withstand steep angles, 30 to 40% grades before they begin to starve, they were used in 4x4 trucks too. The center bowl is good for slosh control. Qjets do not require constant adjusting, aftermarket carbs require much more readjusting than a properly setup Qjet.

If you are concerned about fuel starvation at steep angles, you should consider upgrading the needle seat to .130 and installing an in tank electric fuel pump and return regulator. Good fuel regulator help prevent the need for frequent carb readjustment.
