Welded spoiler to cover tonight after more tweaking, prep , & bracing. weld not pretty but will be ground & filled anyways. Hard to get old aluminum clean enough. Used wet rags to stop excess heat travel to paint. Started on underside of spoiler. Need to finish fabbing underplates & weld in . Then on to new side braces to match new upper quarter shape, which I'll probably just glue on.

Making covers for underside of spoiler/bedcover. Thinking about using thicker aluminum with multiple sized drilled & flared holes like the small part on the right for new side bracing for the old cover..
Learned how to weld aluminum making this cover by the way.

Wow nice!!

WTF fits. Back in 1959 or so some guy probably said "I got this here station wagon and I actually need a pick up, hmmm, WTF, I'll cut the roof off and I got me a pick up"

I admire your vision and commitment, good on you to carry through with it, as well as sharing the experience with the rest of us that are probably to faint at heart to try!

Got a little metal trimmed & started welding in spoiler underside. Got a pretty flat weld this time with extra cleaning before welding. Had some leftover punched & flared metal strips from when I made this cover approx. 12 years ago that I used on the outsides to close back in . Guess you could say I used period correct parts.
