A battery is just holding a charge of energy, where does that charge come from and what is the source of the re-charge?

Multiple forms out there.

I've thought the same thing, short trips or in areas where you have a lot of traffic that you are mainly sitting still, electric car definitely would be optimal.

Distances of travel, not so much.

Solar, wind, geothermal, etc. There are LOTS of ideas out there, some even operational, that look promising to produce energy in the future. Scaling them up will likely see some growing pains, and winners and losers. The next 10-20 years should be interesting, there are numerous battery "breakthroughs" as well, mostly in a lab environment so miles from mass production. All this to hopefully prolong our fossil fuels to the point they're not needed, but we have a ways to go. If gasoline becomes that scarce due to regulation, I'm hoping to have enough of my own electricity on tap to examine the feasibility of compressing hydrogen after splitting it off of water with the old HHO process. All you need to do is pull the timing back a bit. In the meantime I'll just keep filling the tank.

There is lithium battery powered equipment that can move loads that you would never believe for 12 hrs on a charge that only takes 1 hr to 100%.

Technology is changing literally every week.

Ejamacated idguts. Sounds great on paper. I’ll guess if you handed this guy a shovel and asked him to use it to dig a ditch he’d hurt himself in the 1st 20 minutes of use.

I doubt that. It would likely take 20mins minimum just for them to ensure all the proper safety protocols are in place before use & then they'll have to figure out how it actually works....

I think I'm gonna hold out for teleportation. Until then, I'll keep driving my emission spewing gas hog. Nothing beats the V8 rumble.
