the box is from RamAirBox.com, I didn't like the aluminum tubing they supply, so after some searching I bought some industrial tubing from FlexHaust... 6" tubing is very hard to find, and very expensive.

due to intake height, hood clearance is very tight

no one makes a 2.75" tall filter anymore, which worked with a generic 1.25" drop base... So I used this 1.5" drop base from RamAirBox.com with a 3" tall filter.

it's the largest drop available for a 14" filter that also clears a Holley design and it's linkages.

here's how the box and base look together

box just clears the coil cover, would not work with a large Accel cap

here's my B&M line lock. There is a adjustable proportioning valve on the rear brakes as the OE one is starting to fade.

I hooked up a vacuum gauge and fastened to the firewall for convenience when tuning

these electric fans are out of a RoadMaster, relay swtich was deleted and wired so both fans run at the same time. Connected to a 170*F thermo switch

Engine bay is lookin nice.

Intake looks cool and so do valve covers.

I hope I don't have to run a drop base like that, though. It looks like its smooth and has a nice radius but still seems like a little bit of restriction.

it is very restrictive actually... with the drop base, 3" filter, and a lid like I have, it leaves barely 1/2" above the base's hump. If I used a flat lid, there wouldn't be any breathing room at all.

also, thanks for comments 1979ratod and drogg1

thanks for sharing....nice work! Looks clean and well planned...inspiration for my own build.

Nice!i thought of using a air cleaner off of a mid 90's TBI truck and facing the inlet towards the rear of the firewall, as i deleted my a/c box and installed a blockoff plate. just an idea... 🙂 Did your car originally come with the non a/c setup? Reason i ask is cuz i am wondering what the vent controls look like under the steering column and what the "dummy" vents on the dash look like as well...

Thats awesome! I want a dual snorkel set up now

thanks for the compliments folks,

85GPLef41, if you go on RamAirBox.com, they sell a sweep back style box that might work with your firewall induction idea. Yes, the car is originally non a/c... the vent control levers are similar to the e-brake pedal release lever, cable opperated and mounted beside the ebrake release on the under column panel.

-83MONTESS- I suppose I could have saved alot of money with a Spectre kit, or even one of RamAirBox's dual snorkel boxes. But I really wanted to keep my battery infront and use a single snorkel on the left side. But back when I ordered this box, Spectre didn't have a single snorkel available, and I really liked the RamAirBox design. My biggest headache was the 6" tube.
You can take a look at RamAirBox's dual snorkel box, if you buy it as a kit, they'll supply two 4" tubes and some scoops, plus all the clamps and hardwhere you need.
