So here's the story. My dad and i bought this "305" from a garage not too far from where we live. Apparently it had been bored and stroked to a 327. It runs good. But for some reason, it gets ash deposit on only the passenger side of the motor. All four get gunked up. The driver side are all perfect brown. It has a weiand dual plane intake and a holley 750. Does anyone know why it would have deposit and all four on the same side, but not the others? It's stumped us for a while and i'd like to fix it if i can.

Does it smoke? If you're talking about the spark plugs on one side being fouled out or having ash deposits it could be your intake gasket as stupid as it sounds. My very first 350 would foul out plugs and leak alittle externally as well on one side. I had the intake gaskets upside down. Im not saying all gaskets go on one way but after pulling the intake off it was obvious one was upside down. I put new ones on and no leak!

X2 on checking the gaskets. Did you guys check to make sure that both heads are the same? A different heads may cause this also, because they would require two different sets of spark plugs. Seen that happen before with a guy replacing a cracked head.

I would guess that one of the heads has more miles on it than the other. You could try replacing the valve stem seals.

Not to get too far off topic but, how did a 305 get bored and stroked to 327?

My guess would be a 400 crank in a 305 block with a .030" over bore. Im too lazy/tired to do math right now

Edit: I lied, that would be a 329 without the .030" over bore. With the .030" bore it would be a 334 stroker.

That was something i had in the back of my head. The guy built the engine when he was in some sort of racing school. Which was a while ago. So a differenthead might have been used. I will pull valve covers off tomorrow

Thats why i said apparently. The guy built it a while ago and didnt really give us much for specs. Runs decent for a 305 though. Needs a new cam for off the line. Its cammed to turn like 7,000. I dont need anything over 5,500

x2 I'd change the valve seals. I had valve seals go on a 3 of 4 cylinders only on one side of the engine after 2 summers and I can't figure out why, they were a good brand.

Heads are both 14014416 heads.

Thats good, then gaskets or valve seals are your next items to be checked. It's looking like you may be removing this head soon to be certain to take are of this issue.
Another thing is, If you remove your head you can once and for all see what engine displacement you have by measuring the bore and stroke from the top.
