Just behind the neck is a 1/4" thick bracket that the front of the tanks mount to. It's broken off. Not a tough fix but there's quite a bit that needs to be removed to get room to prep for welding.

At least its just a bracket, nothing structural. Any idea what might've caused it?

V-twin vibration and rough roads probably. That trip a couple weeks ago was really hard on these bikes. Or any bike, for that matter. Truth is, you kinda have to like to tinker to own something like this. My old Goldwing was a completely different animal. Not to say these weren't reliable, but there were some bugs to work out and a lot of maintenance was due. I'm mostly out in front of it now.

I mentioned having to fix the oil leak to Harley George yesterday while he was balancing my tires. He really wants me to bring him the engine this winter to split the case and reseal...and do a cam upgrade...and port the heads...and play with jetting...and tune exhaust baffles. Not sure this is turning into a healthy friendship.

Also, page 100.

I know good bike mechanics are not easy to come by. My neighbor that I bought the Ferd from is big into bikes, he has a badass American flag painted Harley Road King and a Honda Shadow that he rides in the winter. I remember him telling me he couldn't find anyone who would inspect his bikes without either charging a fortune or ripping him off.

I think I'm pretty fortunate to have been steered to George. He was a dealer tech and had his own custom shop for s few years before he moved here from Florida. Says he worked on a lot of these Gilroy bikes and loves Evos. He's basically retired now because his wife makes an obscene amount of money in the corporate world.
This was in the corner of his shop...

Just to the left, out of frame, is a pretty nice SWB squarebody he's working on.

Yup. Once I put a fresh charged battery in it, that was the 2nd thing I checked after the ignition switch.
I really haven't thought much about that thing because it's been shoved in the corner. Had to push it out of the way to get to something so I figured I'd take a couple minutes to check it out.

100 pages of greatness!

Seriously, not to get all sappy, but I really like reading your stuff. A lot more interesting than my day-to-day life.

Hotrodders (the few that will remain as time marches on) will find a way to adapt, we always have. I figure to do what I want as long as I can, and after I'm gone, what happens, happens. I have already had a discussion about that with the wife (almost 9 years younger than me), I did tell her I would try not to leave a hoard of junk for her to deal with.

Appreciate the kind words.

My only specific instructions are that my replacement doesn't get to play with any of my stuff. My wife (widow) is his problem though.
