I am glad to see everything is going well. Understand completely about thinking about the future and keeping the basement open for now just saves any frustration in case you need to make it into guest rooms, offices, storage, man cave, etc. My house in CT had a full basement and it was setup as a workshop by my dad, but later on everything had to go to make it into extra living space. What a chore that was!
Understand about the permanent teacher face. Taught for 15 years and quit when I had to take care of my dad. Will never go back I am sorry to say. Not the same profession when I started in the late 90’s.
Continued good luck as the building progresses. I was in your position in 1991 at this time building a new house in a new state and looking forward to a new chapter in my life. It was a pain in the *ss to get here, but worth it once everything settled down back then.
Its looking great. I love construction projects. My parents built their house in 1998 based on some working drawings they bought from a local architect that he drew up for fun. My mom and dad are both civil engineers and my dad was a carpenter for 15 years before he went back to college, so my dad did all of the wood working and concrete formwork himself, and called in some favors from his brother who is a plumber and his cousin who is an electrician, and a he had friend who did masonry that did all the brickwork. I love the house, I just wish it was on more land. It's only on about 2 acres. That doesn't look like something you'll have to worry about 😀
